Recently, I tried an experiment, and cut the bottom off a celery stalk and the bottom off a head of lettuce and put both in water. The celery stalk grew little pieces of celery and lots of leaves to a height of about four inches, and then it died. The lettuce stalk grew two leaves to a height of about two inches, and then it died. Obviously, they needed more than water to thrive. The miracle was that they both began to grow! That is Divine Love.
Reading various definitions of Divine Love, they all come down to the fact that nothing can be created without it. Isaiah 30:23-25 and Psalm 147:8-9 both speak about God providing rain for grain and grass to grow to feed the cattle, and the working animals.
Since the pandemic is the main concern these days, I would like to quote Max Lucado from his book, God Will Use This for Good (2013):
“You will get through this.
It won’t be painless; it won’t be quick.
But God will use this mess for the good.
In the meantime, don’t be foolish or naïve.
But don’t despair,
With God’s help you will get through this.”
Christ calls us today during this Covid-19 pandemic. Our calling may be to stay at home and pray, or it may be to go out and work in some way to help those who need us.
Meditate and you will find God’s Divine Love.
