Isaiah 25:6-9
Psalm 23
Matthew 15:29-39
Psalm 23:4—Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me.
Isaiah 26:9—My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.
Anxiety abounds in these troubled times. It is not hard to be distressed by the daily news with its reports of global health crises and political unrest with ensuing catastrophes for innocent populations.
Whenever our home front here is confronted by a seemingly overwhelming issue, my husband exclaims, “Will the sun come up tomorrow?” He exhorts us to focus on challenging the problem, and to only feel overwhelmed if we truly fail to perceive the next sunrise.
The Psalmist saw the Lord as a constant provider with protection close at hand for the asking in times of travail. Isaiah the Prophet through his own darkness, sought the Lord, finding Him among the poor and righteous in Judah’s triumphant Song of Victory.
A quiet reflection on the scripture here can encourage our own spirits to see God’s promises in the sun that never, ever fails to rise each day in every corner of the Earth.
