Isaiah 54:1-10
Psalm 30
Luke 7:24-30

Everybody, just wake up!

Prior to our gospel reading, Jesus had healed a centurion’s slave and raised to new life a widow’s son. Both these healing acts caused the witnesses to wake up and take notice. Scripture says that although fear seized them, they began to “glorify God, saying, ‘A great prophet has risen among us!’ and ‘God has looked favourably on his people!’” (Luke 7:16). Word of Jesus and his actions spread throughout Judea. The disciples of John the Baptist went to John while he was in prison and declared to him the works of Jesus. In turn, John sent Jesus a message asking if he was the one they had been waiting for. Jesus responded to the disciples by encouraging them to go and tell John what they were seeing. The blind could see, the lame could walk, those in prisons were healed and set free.

Look around! How is God revealing God’s self to you today? Given the year we have had, it might be hard to see how God has been at work in your life. Still, it might be comforting to realize that John the Baptist was awakened to Christ’s presence from his prison cell. When he heard all that was happening, he woke up to the truth that Jesus was the one whom he had been preparing for. Please know and awaken to the fact that the good that is being done around you is of God.
