The Lord is my Light
The poem below by Sister Sue Elwyn is an eloquent commentary on the previous post, “When Morning Gilds the Skies.” Photo by Sister Elizabeth Rolfe-Thomas.
The Lord is my Light!
Faint sparks
shine through
turbulent clouds of
chaos,
starlight piercing
darkness until
white moon,
warm sun
illumine
the heavens and
the earth.
Genesis or
Big Bang Theory,
Our Creator is our Light.
The Lord is my Light!
Brilliant starlight
at his birth,
Glowing Spirit
bursting heaven’s
bonds at Jordan,
The radiance of holiness
upon the mountain top,
the sharp white light of
word, action,
prayer,
pierce through murky human
practice to show
God’s Glory –
Our Saviour is our Light.
The Lord is my Light!
Bright strangers
bring news of
unexpected
birth.
Wisdom penetrates
confusion.
The fiery tongues
of Pentecost
illumine still
our minds,
our hearts,
our bodies and
our souls.
Our Sanctifying Spirit is our Light.
The Lord is my Light!
Light of sun
to grow, to heal
Light for eyes
to see, to shape,
And best of all, Sophia’s
lovely Light lights up
our inner vision,
enabling us to see
Creator,
Saviour,
Spirit
working in our world –
What Gift! What Glory!
Thanks be to God for
Light.
