About Us

The Sisterhood of Saint John the Divine is a contemporary expression of the religious life for women within the Anglican Church of Canada. We were founded in Toronto in 1884. Our Mother House, Saint John’s Convent, continues to be in Toronto.

The Sisterhood of Saint John the Divine acknowledges that our home at 233 Cummer Avenue stands on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. This land is covered by Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. As a community called to prayer and service, we honour this land and its peoples, and commit to the ongoing work of justice and reconciliation.
