Dum Spiro/ While I Breathe, I Hope
Seeking the Dove
David W. Opheim

Isaiah 40:25-31
Psalm 103:1-10
Matthew 11:28-30

Many are praying and longing for peace. We have prayed passionately and frequently for those in authority to make wise decisions that affect the well-being of all. We despair at the seemingly chaotic state of our world and at the destructive actions of mis-directed, vindictive, and often inhumane”leaders” through their governments’ agencies. The hate-filled rhetoric spewed by some, witnessed and reported by media, and present on social media sites is alarming and highly disturbing. Indeed, so many of the world’s people are living in the Pit. (Psalm 103:4) They/we are weary and feel powerless. When will the call for peace be answered?

The readings for today are familiar, comforting and hopeful. Especially,”…He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.” (Isaiah 40:28-29) “The Lord works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed.”(Psalm 103:6) Jesus says, Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”(Matthew 11:28)

While reflecting on these readings, the hymn, Tell Out, My Soul (Common Praise) began humming, then singing in my head.”Tell out, my soul; the greatness of his might! Powers and dominions lay their glory by; Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight; The hungry fed, the humble lifted high.”

Pray we turn to the Lord, trust and wait…anticipate.
