Isaiah 30:19-21,23-26
Psalm 147:1-12
Matthew 9:35-10:1,5-8

What a powerful and humbling message I found in these two lessons and the psalm. In reading the lessons, my thoughts immediately went to my following the Benedictine Rule of Life and how each of us as Oblates, who are writing these reflections, intentionally tries to live that Rule to the best of our ability.

We are all followers of Christ serving humbly all those that are in need. In many communities, deacons led the way, pointing out needs and opportunities to serve. We can be present for those in need and spread the Word about all that God has given us. We can trust in His abiding love and care for each of us. Matthew tells us that Jesus bade the disciples to go out into the world and share the good news with all who have not yet heard the Word. We are called to follow in those footsteps. The prophet Isaiah tells us that if we ask, our pleas for help will always be answered and if we so believe, then everything that we need will be provided. The 147th Psalm is a hymn of praise celebrating God‘s power, wisdom, and compassion, gathering in the lost, healing the broken. It is indeed a joyful task to sing His praises.

It is fitting that many of our worship services close with the Sending:

” Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.” Amen.
