Registration: Food for the Soul

To register for any of the Food for the Soul events

  • Please fill out a separate form for each person and each event.

Payment options:

  • By cheque: Complete the registration form and mail to the address on the form with a cheque payable to: SSJD
  • By credit card: Call the Guest House at 416-226-2201 ext. 305; registration will be taken over the phone.
  • Do not mail or email your credit card information. * Credit Card information is not stored; the information is destroyed upon payment approval. Upon receipt of payment, all registrations will be confirmed by email.

Please note also:

  • The form can also be requested from the Guest House office:
  • You may phone or e-mail to check whether the retreat is full, but to reserve a place, we MUST have your written registration form AND deposit. Balance of payment is due when you check in.
  • Please check in first at the main Convent lobby, NOT the Guest House entrance.
 
Schedule Times
  • Overnight Retreats (including guided retreats) begin with Evensong at 5:00 pm on the first day.
  • Please plan to arrive by 4:00 pm if at all possible to have time to check into your room and get settled.
  • Retreats end after the noon meal on the last day (approximately 1:30 pm).
  • For retreats ending on Sunday, there is an option to stay for the afternoon and join the Sisters for Evensong and our weekly supper-with-conversation.
  • All retreats have a limited number of participants, usually 25.

Food for the Soul: Opportunities and Fees

Retreats, Workshops, and Quiet Saturdays

Fees (and deposits where applicable) are listed in the individual descriptions - see Food for the Soul brochure here » or individual webpages listed here ». Payments may be made by cash, cheque, credit card, or debit (New fee schedule as of July 1, 2019). Deposits and fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Guided Retreats

These overnight retreats focus on a particular theme and include four or five talks over the course of two days, with ample time for personal reflection, reading, walking, and prayer.

Participants are invited to join the Sisters for chapel services. Meals are eaten in silence, and the Guest House is a place of silence during the retreat.

The fee and (non-refundable) deposit are listed under the description for each retreat. Commuters are welcome if there is space. The fee is 55% of the overnight fee, and the deposit is the same as listed.

Quiet Saturdays

These are one-day retreats, beginning with coffee and conversation at 9:30 am and ending by 4 pm. Each focuses on a particular theme, and the retreat leader gives two or three short talks during the day, leaving ample time for participants’ prayer and personal reflection, and the opportunity to join the Sisters for the noon Eucharist.

There is an opportunity for quiet conversation over a bag lunch or, for an additional fee, a hot (silent) dinner in the Refectory with the Sisters. Fees are listed under the description for each Quiet Saturday.

Full payment is required with registration.

Quiet Garden Days

Enjoy some time for rest, reflection and prayer in the Convent courtyard, labyrinth, gardens and walks, beginning with coffee and conversation at 9:30 am and ending by 4 pm.

A Sister will give a brief introduction with suggestions for how to use your day, you can join the Sisters for the noon Eucharist, and the day ends with a brief gathering for sharing and reflection.

Personal Retreats

Standard fee for single overnight retreats is $85 per night, including 3 meals; $70 for single senior; $100 for overnight ensuite; $90 for overnight senior ensuite; $60 for full-time students with ID.

B&B Single: $65; B&B Senior: $55; B&B Student: $55; B&B Ensuite room: $75 (no senior rate)

Cost of a personal day retreat is $40 (including private room and noon meal), with the option of an additional $40 for spiritual direction.

No Monday arrivals except clergy.

Bursary Assistance

Please let us know if you cannot afford the full cost of a retreat. We can assist with a special bursary fund supported by donations for this purpose.

We provide for gluten-free and vegetarian diets.
