Description: The Holy Week retreat will feature the words and music of Handel’s MESSIAH from the chorus “Behold the lamb of God” through to the “Lift up your Gates” Chorus. Participants of this retreat will be given opportunities to reflect on the words taken directly from the prophets and psalms of the Bible together with how Handel treated the scripture texts in his music. All these are brought together to get a sense of the sight and sound of Our Lord’s Passion as interpreted by Handel.
Led by: Sr. Anne, SSJD. Sr. Anne was born into a family of musicians. Her father was an Organist and Choir Director and her mother a soprano soloist. She began choir under her father’s direction at the age of six and began violin lessons at the age of 9. She graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax with a Bachelor of Music Education with a strings concentration and also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Waterloo Lutheran Seminary (now Martin Luther College) a college affiliated with Wilfred Laurier University. Before entering the Sisterhood in 1994, she worked with several Symphony Orchestras as a professional musician around the province of Ontario.
