Guided Retreat: Walking the Camino:
Stories & Reflections on the Way to Santiago

Guided Retreat: Walking the Camino: Stories & Reflections on the Way to Santiago

Friday, June 1–Sunday, June 3, 2018

In the autumn of 2011, Pauline walked the camino, the pilgrim path that leads from St. Jean Pied de Port, a French town in the Pyrenees, to Santiago de Compostella, in the far northwest of Spain. The eight-hundred-kilometre path to the tomb of St. James the Apostle has been walked by pilgrims for over a thousand years.

Stories and pictures of the camino will be the touchstone of our retreat, but the pilgrimage is as profoundly spiritual as it is intensely physical - which is why it is doubly fascinating.

We will spend time in reflection and conversation about such topics as: expectancy and doubt, transformations and thresholds, pathways and thin places, encountering Christ on the journey.

Led by the Rev. Dr. Pauline Head, an Anglican priest in the Diocese of Niagara and an Associate of SSJD. She has a doctorate in Medieval Studies and was a professor of Old and Middle English literature at York University.

Pauline is now retired and lives in Guelph with her husband and their two dogs, where she enjoys hiking, reading, writing and offering spiritual direction.

  • All retreats and quiet days at St. John’s Convent take place in the milieu of a contemporary monastic community which has a daily rhythm of prayer. All guests are invited to take part in the daily Eucharist, and those staying overnight may like to join us in the Divine Office (Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline).
